Van Staal has taken this feedback to make their legendary surf reels that have served as the benchmark for durability and reliability even better than before. Fully sealed and 100% submersible, these are truly the toughest spinning reels on the market. The VS X2 is as close to bulletproof as reels get for the ultimate surf fishing performance. Sand, saltwater, and the biggest fish in the surf are no match for these unstoppable surf fishing machines.
The VS X2 features the same fully machined 6061 aluminum single piece body with a lengthened stem to help avoid busting your knuckles on the rotor. The power grip handle knob and oversized drag knob now come standard for maximum comfort and performance right out of the box. The VS X2 now also features a lengthened handle for increased torque and a new anti-reverse clutch now located on the pinion gear to eliminate rotor play for a solid, high tolerance feel. For those serious about surf fishing and looking for a reel that truly has "No Limitations", there is simply no better option than the VS X2 reels from Van Staal.

Custom spooling including top-shots, wind-ons, hollow-core backing, and fluorocarbon are available. Call or send a note with your requirements and we’ll advise costs. All reels are machine spooled under ideal tension, braid is spooled with approximately 50 feet of mono backing. Wind-on leaders are offered for both hollow core and non-hollow braid, hollow core is spliced and non-hollow braid is connected loop-to-loop with a bimni twist.

The "B" in VSB-X2 stands for Bailed. The VSB-X2 reel comes standard out of the box with a titanium mechanical bail system for those who prefer automatic line management. The standard VSX2 is entirely bail-less, which requires manual line pick-up with your finger.
Yes, one of the most versatile features of the VSB-X2 is that it includes a complete bail-less conversion kit, no additional purchase required. If you decide you want to transition from automatic to manual surf-casting, you can easily remove the bail and install the manual pick-up roller yourself.
The longer stem was engineered to keep the reel's rotor from striking your knuckles during fast cranks. While it does push the reel slightly further away from the blank, this minimal shift doesn't negatively impact the center of gravity on standard nine to eleven foot surf rods.
The 50 size is perfect for shallow back-bays, flats or kayak fishing and pairs best with a seven to eight foot medium power inshore rod. For casting from beaches or rocky jetties, the 150 size has the balanced speed and power you'll need. If you're repping a 10 or 11-foot heavy surf rod offshore, the 200 size will give you the massive gear leverage and brute drag-stopping force needed to win against big fish and heavy currents.
