Product Highlights
SHIMANO Talica II A Two-Speed Lever Drag Conventional Reel

The Shimano Talica II A redefines two-speed lever drag performance with cutting-edge engineering that builds on the success and reliability of the flagship Talica. Infinity Drive technology delivers up to 40% lighter rotation during intense battles by increasing drag force while reducing side-load pressure to keep you in control. Cross Carbon Drag reaches 50 pounds of maximum pressure, paired with a redesigned low-gear ratio for unmatched winding power.

The compact S-Compact Body is 6% smaller than the previous generation, reducing fatigue on long days without compromising strength. X-Protect technology seals vital areas against saltwater and the elements, giving you peace of mind that your gear won't fail in harsh conditions. Dual Drag Cam system lets you optimize performance for braided line or monofilament, while the included Light-Line Drag Cam adds versatility for lighter tackle applications. Shimano's HAGANE Body construction provides the rigid foundation these reels demand by virtually eliminating body flexing.

Features:

  • Infinity Drive: A new drag design that makes it easier to gain line on stubborn fish. You get more control and cranking power when fishing heavy drag settings with less fatigue during long fights.
  • X-Protect: X-Protect treatment keeps saltwater from invading internal components, preventing corrosion and bearing failure.
  • HAGANE Body: The rigid HAGANE Body ensures all of your power goes right into moving the fish by virtually eliminating body flex.
  • S-Compact Body: A smaller palming side plate gives you more comfort without sacrificing any power.
  • Cross Carbon Drag: Cross Carbon Drag allows you to make precise adjustments through a wider drag range for smoother performance and fewer lost fish.
  • Dual Drag Cam: A more gradual drag curve that makes your adjustments less aggressive and easier to fine-tune when fishing lighter line. Great for kite fishing and live baiting.

Spooling Option

Select from standard spooling options listed in the drop-down menu above, or let us know how you would like your reel spooled. Custom spooling including top-shots, wind-ons, hollow-core backing, and fluorocarbon are available. Call or send a note with your requirements and we’ll advise costs. All reels are machine spooled under ideal tension, braid is spooled with approximately 50 feet of mono backing. Wind-on leaders are offered for both hollow core and non-hollow braid, hollow core is spliced and non-hollow braid is connected loop-to-loop with a bimni twist.

Infinity Drive winds under load

Infinity Drive winds under load

Infinity Drive moves the main shaft onto a low-friction bushing and away from the pinion gear, with a proprietary surface treatment that drops rotational torque dramatically. The result is a reel that keeps
cranking smoothly when a big fish has the rod buried — none of the staggered, hard-handle feel you get from a standard
spinner under heavy load. This is the upgrade that separates the Saragosa SW from the prior generation; it's the single
biggest reason to step up from an older Saragosa or a comparable mid-tier offshore spinner.
Ultra-Smooth, Reliable Drag Performance

Ultra-Smooth, Reliable Drag Performance

Shimano's Cross Carbon Drag provides extremely smooth startup and a wide range of precise drag settings that allow you to fish lighter leaders with confidence. Cross Carbon Drag helps maintain consistent pressure throughout any fight without jerky drag surges that can cost you a trophy fish.
HAGANE Body, HAGANE Gear

HAGANE Body, HAGANE Gear

The rigid one-piece HAGANE Body holds its shape under the worst of an offshore fight — no flex, no creak, no drift in the gear mesh when you're cranking against a tuna sound or pulling a GT off the reef. Inside, the HAGANE Gear is cold-forged from a single piece of metal rather than cut, which produces a gear surface that runs glass-smooth out of the box and stays smooth for the life of the reel. X-Ship pairs the two with a tighter pinion-gear seat for efficient power transfer.

Before you buy

Frequently asked questions.

Still unsure? Call +1-877-337-9591. You'll talk to a builder, not a sales rep.

  • What type of fishing is this reel designed for?

The Talica II A is a high-performance two-speed lever drag reel built for offshore anglers targeting species such as tuna, wahoo, mahi, sailfish, amberjack, grouper, and swordfish. The combination of its powerful drag system and lightweight build make it ideal for trolling, live baiting, kite fishing, deep dropping, and stand-up fishing uses.

  • Does it ship spooled with line?

Reels ship empty. Free spooling service with reel purchase at our Pompano Beach shop — bring your line of choice. Most tackle shops will also spool with proper tension. We do not recommend spooling at home unless you have a line winder.

  • How do I maintain the drag?

Rinse with fresh water after every saltwater trip. Wipe down with a microfiber cloth. Back the drag off to free spool before storage so the washers do not stay compressed. Annual service at our shop or any Shimano dealer keeps the drag smooth season after season.

  • What if I ordered the wrong hand orientation?

Hand orientation is set at the factory and not field-swappable. If the reel arrives and the hand is wrong for you, contact us within 14 days for a hand-swap exchange. Most reel returns trace back to ordering the wrong hand — double-check the variant before checkout.

  • What's the difference between the Talica II A and Tiagra?

The Talica II A is built to be lighter, more compact and best suited for stand-up fishing and a variety of offshore applications. The Tiagra is bigger and heavier, designed primarily for big-game trolling and max line capacity. We recommend the Talica if you want high performance in a lighter package.
