Spooling Option
Select from standard spooling options listed in the drop-down menu above, or let us know how you would like your reel spooled. Custom spooling including top-shots, wind-ons, hollow-core backing, and fluorocarbon are available. Call or send a note with your requirements and we’ll advise costs. All reels are machine spooled under ideal tension, braid is spooled with approximately 50 feet of mono backing. Wind-on leaders are offered for both hollow core and non-hollow braid, hollow core is spliced and non-hollow braid is connected loop-to-loop with a bimni twist.
Smart Autostop
Built-in Bluetooth connects to the ReelTime app to display a digital line counter and track performance, while the Autostop feature automatically stops retrieval to prevent your rig from crashing into the rod tip.
Hands-Free Level-Wind
An automatic level-wind system ensures perfectly even line spooling during heavy deep-drops, all housed in a rugged 6061 billet aluminum chassis made in the USA.

Is the Hooker Electric motor permanently attached, or can I remove it?
The motor, autostop module, and level-wind assembly are permanently mounted to the PENN International VI frame. While you retain the manual handle and two-speed gearing, you cannot easily detach the electric components to convert it back to a standard trolling reel.

Will my existing boat outlets power this reel, or do I need to rewire my electric reel plugs?
You will likely need to install a dedicated circuit. Because this reel features a high-performance 2-horsepower motor, it draws significantly more amperage than standard, smaller electric reels. It requires heavy-gauge wiring (typically 8 AWG or 6 AWG) and specialized high-amperage plugs (such as Hubbell or Marinco) connected directly to your battery bank to prevent tripping breakers or starving the motor of power under a heavy load.

Can I still use standard braided line, or does the Autostop model require special metered line?
You can use any standard braided line you like! The Autostop mechanism does not read colored line markers or metal foil tape- it relies on an internal magnetic rotation sensor to calculate distance electronically. All you need to do is spool your preferred braid, drop it to your desired surface starting point and calibrate it as "zero" inside the ReelTime app.

Does the added level-wind restrict how much line capacity I get compared to a standard PENN International VI?
No, the spool capacity remains identical. The level-wind system is mounted externally onto the frame and does not take up space inside the spool well. You get the exact same massive line capacity as the base PENN International VI model with the added benefit that the level-wind packs the line perfectly tight to prevent digging.
