OKUMA Makaira Two-Speed Special Edition Lever Drag Reel - Matte Black
The OKUMA Makaira Two-Speed Special Edition Lever Drag Reel combines performance and aesthetics in a limited-edition package. Built on the proven Makaira platform and backed by a 5-year warranty, this matte black anodized aluminum frame houses a silver etched yellowfin tuna design that catches light like the open water.
Engineered for serious anglers, the Carbonite Dual Force drag system delivers smooth, consistent pressure across the entire range. Helical-cut gears reduce noise and increase efficiency, while the oversized handle paired with low-speed gearing produces the extreme torque needed for heavy-duty saltwater battles. Two-speed capability gives you the versatility to match your retrieve to conditions; grinding power when you need it, speed when you don't.

Frequently asked questions.
Still unsure? Call +1-877-337-9591. You'll talk to a builder, not a sales rep.
-
Does it ship spooled with line?
Reels ship empty. Free spooling service with reel purchase at our Pompano Beach shop — bring your line of choice. Most tackle shops will also spool with proper tension. We do not recommend spooling at home unless you have a line winder.
-
Why are the helical-cut gears better than traditional straight-cut gears?
Traditional gears engage one full tooth face at a time, creating small vibrations and chatter under extreme pressure. The helical design contains angled teeth that spiral slightly around the gear axis, and as they turn, the teeth mesh gradually together from one to the other. This functions to distribute massive rotational loads across a larger surface to provide smooth and silent winching power.
-
How does the reel shift between the two gear speeds?
Shifting is entirely mechanical and handled externally by a quick-change control framework on the handle shaft. To engage the ultra-low torque gear, push the button located directly in the center of the handle pivot axle. To shift back up to the high-speed recovery gear, you simply slide the release lever located just below the handle arm.
-
Do all Makaira reel models use the exact same dual-force drag technology?
Yes, the fundamental Carbonite Dual Force Drag architecture is standardized across the entire lineup. However, the scale changes dramatically based on model and size. The smaller models pack plenty of muscle for mid-tier offshore sportfish, while the larger wide-spool frames (like the MK-50WII and 80WII) expand the surface area of the drag washers to safely handle sustained, blistering high-heat drag pressures exceeding 60 to 100 lbs for giant bluefin tuna and marlin.
-
How does this reel protect its internal components against saltwater corrosion?
It utilizes three lines of defense against saltwater corrosion- first, the entire aluminum frame receives a proprietary Corrosion-Resistant Coating (CRC). Additionally, all non-spool bearings are packed with a full grease block to keep water out. Finally, the exterior frame is engineered with drain holes and specialized screw ports to ensure water exits quickly rather than pooling where it's not welcome.
