  • What makes the Yellowfin Tuna Edition mechanically different from a standard Makaira?

    Beyond the custom three-toned anodizing and side-plate etching, this limited-edition variant incorporates Okuma's full SEa configuration upgrades. This includes TSI-301 oiled open bearings for 2.5x more freespool, a Gen-2 shifting mechanism for seamless 2-speed transitions, an upgraded Gen-2 trolling clicker system, and lower-speed 1.3:1 low gears on the 20 and 30 sizes to maximize low-end fighting torque.

  • Can I use this reel safely with braided line, or is it mono-only?

    You can use either or combine both as a top-shot. The reel features a patented spool pin system engineered to secure slick braided lines or heavy monofilament directly to the cold-forged aluminum spool without slipping.

  • How does this reel protect its internal components against saltwater corrosion?

    It utilizes three lines of defense against saltwater corrosion- first, the entire aluminum frame receives a proprietary Corrosion-Resistant Coating (CRC). Additionally, all non-spool bearings are packed with a full grease block to keep water out. Finally, the exterior frame is engineered with drain holes and specialized screw ports to ensure water exits quickly rather than pooling where it's not welcome.

  • Does it ship spooled with line?

    Reels ship empty. Free spooling service with reel purchase at our Pompano Beach shop — bring your line of choice. Most tackle shops will also spool with proper tension. We do not recommend spooling at home unless you have a line winder.
