The Shimano Tiagra® 50WLRSA Long Range Special Lever Reel utilizes Shimano’s famed “L.R.S.” style drag curve. This style reel was originally designed for West Coast anglers who fish “Stand-Up” style from “Long Range” Charter Vessels. The Special-Cutting of the drag cam gives the 50 WLRSA a much wider usable range of drag pressures. Directly out of Free-Spool, the drag starts up soft and gradually increases up to 44 lbs at full drag. Designed to fish heavier lines right out of the box, these reels are perfectly suited to long-range fishing.
The Shimano Tiagra® 50WLRSA is a very popular model for us in the North East. It is just the right size for offshore trolling or fishing for medium to large-sized pelagics such as Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi, and Mako. If your target is very large pelagics and the almighty giant tuna, you may need to go up in size for more line capacity.
