Frequently asked questions.

-
How is the BG SW different from the BG LT model?
While similar in aesthetics, the BG SW (Saltwater) and LT (Light & Tough) models are built on entirely different design platforms. The LT, exclusively in smaller sizes for light surf and inshore fishing, prioritizes using lightweight designs and components, the BG SW models encompass larger reel sizes and are built for power and durability.
-
Can I spool braided line directly onto the BG SW without backing?
Yes. The anodized aluminum spool on the BG SW features a built-in rubber gasket arbor lining. Traditional aluminum spools are slick, requiring a layer of monofilament line underneath to stop slick braided lines from spinning freely around the core. This specialized rubberized ring grips the braid directly from your very first knot, letting you maximize the reel's full line capacity exclusively with braid.
-
Is the BG SW completely waterproof or sealed?
The BG SW is water-resistant, not fully waterproof or submersible. It features a critical upgrade over past generations: a perimeter rubber gasket seal installed around the main body housing and the drag stack to act as a barrier against splashing waves, heavy spray, and wind-blown sand. However, it does not carry an official waterproof IPX rating and should never be dunked or held underwater.

What is ICAST?
ICAST (International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades) serves as the official global launchpad for many reel releases. Held annually in July, ICAST is the world’s largest sportfishing trade show, where manufacturers debut their premier innovations for the upcoming season.
