"Embrace the CHAOS
Tyler Giraud of CHAOS Fishing shares his tips for novice and experienced anglers.
At CHAOS Fishing in Pompano Beach, Florida, customer experience is key. "We build and stand behind each one of our rods and have personally tested all of them," says Tyler Giraud. "Our team has nearly 100 years combined of fishing and rod-building experience, and we want our customers to have the confidence to ask any questions they have and get that peace of mind."
What are the often-overlooked pieces of gear that seasoned anglers swear by?
The rod choice that will best suit the target species and the method by which they'll be fishing that day. One overlooked thing is simply checking the details on terminal tackle. When was the last time you changed the leader on your reel? Is your line still in good condition or has it started to change colors? What condition are your hooks and lures in? All of this is extremely important, because they can mean breaking off and losing a fish or not getting bites at all.
How does understanding the specific type of fish or environment influence equipment choices?
A specific type of fish or method an angler is targeting is very important when setting them up with a new outfit. For example, someone who wants to target sailfish would need a lightweight, very sensitive, and soft action rod paired with a reel that will be spooled in monofilament over braid with a very high gear ratio or retrieve rate, whereas someone who is trying to target wahoo would enjoy a 50-class reel loaded with 80-pound braid and an adjustable butt on the rod.
Is fishing something you grew up doing?
Fishing has been my passion since I was about 4 years old, starting with freshwater bass fishing and bottom fishing in the ocean. Over the years it is something I've really enjoyed, especially as I branched out into new types of fisheries and different techniques. I have fished competitively in tournaments, previously run a charter business and been a part of four companies related to the industry. I really have a passion for it, and it brings me peace and joy just to be out on the water."
